Social Media & Business
the Image Quality isn’t the best but sometimes… That’s Life
Hello everybody, I’m officially famous.
Tik Tok
Okay I’m no longer famous, that whole thing is over by the time you’re reading this now.
I got tik tok because a friend said art does well on there and sure enough I posted a video of me making a wood burning of a QR code that when scanned lead to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” So far as I’m writing this it sits at 426,400 plays, and 88,700 likes. This is insane to me because the wood burning wasn’t hard, and clipping the video together was easy. I felt like I did almost nothing to get this insane amount of views.
Anyways after four days it slowed down in getting likes and honestly my favorite part is seeing all the funny comments of people jokingly yelling at me for getting Rick Rolled. I think the craziest part is that it has almost half a million plays. I know that doesn’t mean half a million people saw it, but half a million plays! If anyone is curious my instagram and my tik tok are both Dylankeith.pf
Marketing
If randomly anyone on tik tok saw this post then thanks for the support. Also thanks more so for reading this blog. This little exposure on social media kind of gave me a little bit of a boost to post some more on other platforms which has improved wood burning business greatly and I’ve received some new orders. I made the tik tok QR code piece as a joke for myself, and it ended up getting ordered by five of my friends and two strangers. I think that’s pretty cool, but to go even further… I had been making a piece on the joker and thought with my little boost of artistic confidenceI I’d post some more of that one and keep a time lapse.
All things disclosed to my loyal reader. I mean readers… no I don’t I probably mean reader. If anyone is reading these consistently just know you’re so much cooler than that person who read half of this blog and stopped reading by this paragraph. Anyway to disclose information, I spent about 15 ish hours on this piece and love it! So I posted it on instagram and twitter and even snapchat and tik tok and got two more substantial orders off of posting about this one piece. I realize the marketing help that social media brings me as a small business from this week alone.
Ew - Screentime
All that being positive about social media helping me out. It also hurts me quite a bit to say that I’ve been on social media a bit too much this week for my own liking. I did not want to spend that much time on my phone, but I did. It’s not only addicting and seeing some popularity on a video is a little dopamine rush for a second., but I just feel kinda meh. I have had a low key week and it’s given me almost too much time to sit and let myself be distracted with social media. Social media only distracts for brief periods of time then I have to keep using it to help distract myself from the fact I have been on it and didn’t go outside or do anything more productive. Plus seeing certain posts where I feel like i’m missing out or certain people out in the world I just feel like I’m not making the most of my time.
Summary
I see the overall business benefit, and would not be able to have as much business traffic without it. Some of you may have even found this blog from instagram where I usually post it. I also realize what it does to me as a person and my overall well being is not growing when I’m on social media.
I told myself a little bit ago I’d be on my phone less and now I’m using my phone as a distraction. It’s unhealthy and I bet some of you may feel that as well. It might be moving home for a second, or just that I let myself get distracted because it’s easier, but either way This next week I’ll be trying to only get on social media to do business promotion and half an hour a day for keeping up with friends.
The world’s beautiful out there people and I’m just happy to be here, so I want to go enjoy it more.
Other News
I’ve been so distracted with media that I forgot to even upload video’s to another media; youtube. I will be uploading the first video in the next two days and making myself edit out another. I also will be adding an extra blog tomorrow about net working, drones, and routes in media production for careers.
The extra blog is in response to some very productive and helpful phone calls I’ve had recently, my ratio of jobs applied to vs. interviews, and also the fact I just booked my steadicam lessons with the guy who runs steadicamlessons.com. If you’re very serious about steadicam as a career path save up some money and check this guy out.
Thank you all for reading. I really do appreciate all the support from you guys! All the best!
